MEM Prints is a family-owned canvas printing business run by husband and wife team Meng and Mary, specialising in quality canvas printing. When Mary came to me, she was in a difficult situation. She’d paid for a “website in a week” from another designer who had used a problematic template that was poorly built and not managed properly. Mary was looking for someone new to work with as the experience had not been great.
The Challenge
Upon logging in to assist with what Mary thought were minor updates, I immediately discovered the site had serious technical issues and years of unnecessary database bloat weighing down performance. Beyond the technical problems, the site wasn’t optimised for conversions or clearly presenting MEM Prints’ dual offerings: hundreds of prints from Australian artists and custom canvas printing services.
The Solution
I recommended a fresh start. Rather than trying to use a bandaid to fix (a lot) of water leaks, we rebuilt from the ground up, taking the opportunity to not only solve the technical issues but also improve the design and user experience. The new site features:
- Clean, professional e-commerce design showcasing their quality prints
- Clear presentation of both ready-made art prints and custom printing services
- Improved product organisation with collections and categories
- Better conversion-focused layout with clear calls to action
- Optimised performance without the baggage of the previous template
- Easy-to-manage backend for adding new artists and products
The design emphasises the quality and care that goes into each print, reflecting the family-owned, customer-focused nature of the business.
Ongoing Partnership
This rescue project evolved into a long-term partnership as Mary is now on a Website Care Plan. Over the past three years, we’ve continued to update and refine the site as the business grows, adding new features and optimising for better performance and conversions, while ensuring the website remains safe, secure, and properly maintained.
The Results
MEM Prints now has a professional e-commerce site that properly showcases their extensive collection of Australian art prints and custom printing services. In Mary’s words: “Shan literally saved me (my website) from the get go… I absolutely love having her around and looking forward to working together in the long run.”
